Introducing the Design Graph - Big Data & The Future of Making Things

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The thorny issue of product data management is becoming a thing of the past, due to two major trends: big data and the cloud. Advanced big data algorithms make it possible to categorize parts according to their shape and context of use, and for this algorithm to then look at a digital model of a part and know to which category it should be assigned. The cloud has enabled these algorithms to access millions of CAD models, allowing them to learn about types of components available and how they interact with each other. But this is only the beginning. As this intelligent software learns more about product design, it will be able to kick off the design process itself, delivering an initial design based on the designer’s specifications. From here, the designer can focus on refining this design and the overall concept, rather than spend time on the procedural and less cre3ative parts of the design process.
